The Silver Age - after the fall
This degeneration was followed by another period which in the Western culture is sometimes called the Silver Age (and in some cultures the Second World). But before this period could begin, the spiritual world (where all people go after death) had to be reordered due to the corruptions that grew into the common thought humanity. This is done by a Divine judgement; which, as are all spiritual judgements, was accomplished by God, in the form of Divine Truth, coming close and exposing all those who live under a deceptive shield. What appears to be destructive judgements from the hand of God are actually people's reaction to being exposed (like the analogy of the ground being overturned and our evils being uncovered). This judgement was called a "flood" in many cultures since mankind drowned in their falsities and destroyed each other in their thirst for dominance (represented in the Judeo-Christian story of Noah).
As a result, a new type of spiritual life came into existence. With spiritual equilibrium restored, religions covered the earth which valued good actions (charity) above each other's beliefs. People of those days understood that each person saw their Creator in a different way, and each person approached God in their own manner. With good feelings toward one another, these differences did not matter. There is only one Creator.
Written documents also became the common method of recording knowledge in the Silver Age. But the knowledges contained in these documents had a far deeper meaning than we could imagine. Although mankind could no longer talk directly with their ancestors, as they did in the Golden Age, they were still aware of the existence of the spiritual world and continued to teach about those things in the inner meanings of their writings.
There is a large difference between this world and the spiritual world. Here, we are in a finite world with beginnings and endings. The spiritual world has existed as long as God - Infinitely. We, as finite humans, can not understand "infinity" and "eternity" except by analogies and comparisons. For instance, an example of "to eternity" (for ever) is the seed. One seed can be planted and yield more plants, which can yield fields and cover geographic regions and so on, theoretically forever. Through this, we can get a comparison of what infinity is - although we can never fully understand it.
If we are to relate to the spiritual world, we must use these metaphors and analogies so that we can put the spiritual concepts into human terms. This is called correspondence and was the way that ancient authors and storytellers taught regarding spiritual matters. Everything in this world corresponds to something in the spiritual world. The most ancient people knew this from direct exposure, the ancient people of the Silver Age knew this from passed on wisdom through their stories and writings.
So in humanity's beginning, after living at first in both worlds before retiring to the spiritual world, the most ancient people of the First Age (the Golden Age) fully understood the link between heaven and Earth. When the Golden Age passed away, humanity then entered into the Second Age (the Silver Age) which understood God by means of wisdom instead of by direct experience. This is also when the holy books of most major religions had their origin.
Keep in mind. This chain of events involved all of humanity. All peoples throughout the whole earth received instruction about the spiritual world in this manner since all people are under the same Divine Guidance of the same Creator. But in time, the differences in beliefs began to be more important and the Silver Age deteriorated into a factioned world of rivalries (represented in the story of the Tower of Babel).
