Goal Our goal is to provide a personalized browsing experience, including the ability to control and manage resources of your own on our servers. To establish the trust necessary to accomplish this, we request and use some personal information. Your experience of our Service may vary according to the information you provide, and will be diminished in some respects if you do not provide any personal information. Intention You may consider the Service to be like a social event at someone else's private home, to which you are invited because we know you. We know you because you have identified yourself. Entering a private home by stealth, or by presenting false identification, or under any other false pretences, or in order to do harm, or to carry out a search or seizure under false colors, is trespassing. It is reasonable to expect that a certain amount of self-disclosure is necessary and proper in order to participate in a social event, and also reasonable to expect that you can control what it is that you disclose, and can control the extent of your participation. Our intention is that personal information provided to our Service will be used only to create accountability and trust between you and the operators of the Service, and to enhance your experience of the Service. We will not sell that information to anyone else. We will not give that information away to anyone else, except in response to a lawful search warrant or subpoena. We reserve the right to resist or contest any such warrant or subpoena, but do not promise to do so in every case. Cookies We request that you allow your web browser to accept HTTP Cookies from our site. These are used to establish your consent to our User Agreement, to track your use of our resources, and to customize your browsing experience. We consider HTTP Cookies to be personal information which we will not sell or give to anyone else. User Accounts We allow people to set up User Accounts, which are managed by our LDAP server, and used to provide authentication so that users can create and manage resources of their own within our Service. The details of a User Account are personal information which we will not sell or give to anyone else. Another party may request information from your User Account in order to provide you with a special service. Such disclosure will only happen if you explicitly allow it, and will be part of the procedure that signs you up for the special service. Directory Entries We allow people to create entries in the NewEarth Directory, which are managed by our LDAP server, and used to publish information to other users of the Directory, or to the general public, depending on the type of entry. Creating Directory Entries is a form of publication, and information so published is no longer private. Age Limits Our Service is not directed primarily at children, does not sell things to children, and does not promise to be appropriate for children. Personal information collected by the Service may include your date of birth, in order to make it technically feasible to adjust your browsing experience based on your age. Rights of Authors The Service includes methods of publishing information on the World Wide Web, in an LDAP directory, and by other means. Once you have chosen to publish something, you cannot reasonably expect that it will remain private. Information once published can be copied by others and inserted into databases of various kinds, such as search engines. We do provide the means to remove information you wish to withdraw from publication, but these means are effective only on the Service itself, and will not remove copies of that information which have been stored by others, including web caches, search engines and other databases. We do not assume any responsibility for such copies. However, we do include a copyright notice in web pages from our Service, wherever it is technically feasible to insert one, which claims both a compilation copyright for the Service, and an ordinary copyright for the original authors of the information used to create the page. This may help in establishing your rights to your work if it is disputed or abused by others. Disclaimer We will make a sincere effort to see that the Service functions as intended, and according to the policies we publish, and will take actions that, to the best of our knowledge, can be reasonably expected to produce the results we intend and promise. We assume no liability for failing to carry out our policies, if this is due to technical failure of hardware or software, the actions of trespassers, or natural disasters and circumstances, or even if it is due to ignorance or negligence on our own part. We promise only to take corrective action when problems come to our attention, with the goal of restoring the correct, secure and efficient operation of the Service. |
